Architectural Design
Chris MacPherson, LBP Architectural Designer in Cambridge, has been creating homes for over 25 years, working with a wide range of construction methods from timber frame to concrete masonry & mud-block.
Recognising that most New Zealand homes struggle to meet even minimum standards for performance and energy efficiency, Chris set out to design a better way. As a founder of BRICK+CO, he has spent more than a decade collaborating with Wienerberger AG in Europe and now specialises in clay block construction systems: Porotherm, CLIMAmur, and ISOBric.
Proven in Europe for over 200 years, Porotherm is a highly durable, high-performance building system with a design life exceeding 150 years. In some European countries, clay block makes up to 85% of all buildings. Suitable for single- and multi-level construction - including townhouses and apartments - this system uses up to 25% less steel and concrete than traditional masonry, making it both sustainable and cost-effective.
Clay block homes are naturally earthquake & fire-resistant, quiet, breathable and maintain a temperate indoor climate all year round with minimal energy use. Chris has designed numerous clay block homes across New Zealand, from Mangawhai to Queenstown, with outstanding testimonials from homeowners about the comfort and quality of living in these spaces.
